Course Description

Course Information
This course is designed to help employees understand how to work safely and protect themselves, and others, from harm.
By law, basic knowledge of health & safety is essential for all employees in all industries. The course provides an introduction to all of the essential health and safety topics, appropriate for all workplaces, and ensures that workers have sufficient knowledge to prevent accidents and manage risks effectively. It is ideal to provide employees with the requisite knowledge or refresher training.
Do You Comply With the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974?
Under Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, employers have a duty to provide training for their employees to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, their health and safety at work.
The Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999 identify situations where health and safety training is particularly important, including:
  • Training for new recruits
  • Training for when people change jobs or take on extra responsibilities
  • Training for young, more vulnerable employees
  • Refresher training where existing skills need updating
The Health and Safety (Training for Employment) Regulations 1990 also state that learners doing work experience must be covered by health and safety law and so will also require training.
This course ensures that you comply with these laws by providing an adequate level of information suitable for all employees.
COURSE CONTENTS:
  • Legislation: commor workplace accidents, the Health & Safety at Work Act, the Health & Safety Executive, health hazards, PPE, RIDDOR
  • Safety and welfare: slips, trips and fals, electrical and fire safety, first aid, stress, violence
  • The workplace and workplace equipment
  • Risk Assessment: identifying hazards, evaluating risks, record keeping
  • Manual handling: regulations, injurues and best practices, safe systems of work, do’s and don’ts, ergonomics and workstation design
  • Working at height
  • Transport and vehicles: vehicle risks, predestrian-vehicle conflict
  • Noise and vibration: employer responsibilities, noise reduction, vibration

There are no pre-requisites to attend this course.
Length of Course
A minimum of 7 hours
Assessment :
Course delegates are required to sit a 1 hour multiple choice examination immediately after completing the training.
