PROJECT YOBE

The Yobe State Ministry of Health set out a path towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC), to improve health outcomes of the people in Yobe. However, the public health system is unable to provide quality care at scale and the financial barriers for the poor and most vulnerable remains high. With Funding secured from UK Charity organizations and partnership with Yobe State Ministry of Health, we supported to improve the quality of health service delivery in Yobe state. The programme has been designed to support the national UHC strategy and has improved access to health services for people living in Yobe state. These results have been achieved through a mixed model of direct financing for health service delivery and technical assistance to build system resilience.

Our partnership with the Yobe state Ministry of Health via the HSS project has supported the state to achieve the following outcomes:

STATE HEALTHCARE GAP ANALYSIS.
LPTC secured a grant from the International Health Organization (IHO) to carry out a free healthcare Gap Analysis in Yobe state, working with the State Ministry of Health. This project allowed us to fully understand the healthcare challenges, needs and gaps in the state healthcare and develop evidence-based strategies and healthcare solutions to meet this need. The report also supported us in making improvement recommendations to the State Ministry of Health.

ESTABLISHMENT OF REGULATORY AGENCY (YOHFIMA)

Establishing new regulatory agency in Yobe state (YOHFIMA) which is responsible for regulating standards and quality of services delivered by healthcare facilities in Yobe state. LPTC worked with the Ministry to develop the operational documentations, policies, procedures and inspection tools following International best practices and standards set by the Care Quality Commission UK. The agency will improve the quality of healthcare delivery in the state and also increase Internally generated revenue for the Ministry of Health

ESTABLISHMENT OF AMBULANCE SERVICES (YEMABUS)
Establishing a Yobe State Emergency Medical Ambulance Service (YEMABUS). The Agency (YEMABUS) shall provide emergency medical care and life support to sustain the stability of patients before they receive care and treatment in Hospital. LPTC worked with the Ministry to develop the operational documentations, policies, procedures and inspection tools following International best practices and standards set by the Care Quality Commission UK.

TRAINING AND CAPACITY BUILDING VISION
We trained over 100 healthcare professionals including doctors and nurses to develop their clinical skills required for a quality healthcare service delivery. We also organized leadership and management training for healthcare managers and leaders in the state.

DONATION AND SUPPLY OF MEDICAL EQUIPMENT
We secured a grant from the International Health Organization to support in donating medical equipment to Yobe state.
